Abstract
Detailed cortical network models often reproduce the asynchronous irregular state characteristic of wakefulness, but few reproduce the slow oscillatory state typical of non-REM sleep. We show that a data-driven model of the prefrontal cortex in an asynchronous irregular state can be adjusted to exhibit oscillatory states, including one with epileptiform-like activity and another resembling slow oscillations with alternating Up and Down states of neural activity.
