Abstract

Tow- and three-dimensional models of plasticity using discrete dislocation dynamics allow to study the critical signatures of plastic yielding: avalanche statistics, excitations, and predictability. In this talk I will review recent results on how the yield transition can be understood, what kind dislocation avalanches are seen, and how individual samples or systems can be predictecd using the memory effects present in the stress landscapes. I will also show recent results on recovering a yielding transition by tuning the disorder landscape.
