Abstract

In cellular reprogramming experiments, the gene expression of an initial cell type is forced to change so that the cells convert to another cell type.  This process involves changes in the expression of hundreds of genes. We use a model based on the idea of the Waddington epigenetic landscape to analyze existing experimental data from reprogramming experiments. We show both in the experimental data and in Monte Carlo simulations of the model that the gene expression dynamics follows a simple one-dimensional reaction path, which is very similar in both cases. This path is independent of the duration of the experiment and of the details of the protocol followed.
